BeamOrthodontists inDundee are specialist Orthodontics, offering cutting edge treatments and techniques which include coloured braces for patients.

With more than 20 varieties currently available there are plenty of different combinations to choose from.

You can choose to have themed colours like orange and black for Halloween or red and green at Christmas to get in the festive spirit.  You could even choose to have the colour of your birthstone or favourite sports team.

Why do braces have coloured bands on each tooth?

The tiny rubber bands on the braces are called ligature ties. These are used to hold the wire in place.  The wire is what straightens your teeth and the brackets need to fit tightly to the wire in order for your teeth to be straightened. Not all braces need these ligature ties.

Coloured braces bands available

There are a number of different brace bands which orthodontists use.  Each brand has its own colours which may be slightly different to the other brands.  There is usually a range of more than 20 colours which allows for many different combinations of colours.

Popular braces colours for the ladies

Some really cute colour combinations for girls are pink and green, like a watermelon.  Pink and purple look great together, as do purple and teal.  If you like the colours, but don’t want something too bright, try out some lighter colour combinations such as light pink and light blue.

Popular shades for boys and men

Younger Men tend to choose their favourite sports team or their school colours. Darker colours are more popular with boys because they tend to make their teeth appear whiter.

Braces colours to avoid

Some colours don’t look as great on your braces as you would think.  Yellow and White bands are probably not a good idea as they can make your teeth look yellow or stained and clear ligature ties tend to become discoloured very quickly.

Pale and lighter colours can also stain easily from eating foods such as curries and tomatoes. Any food or drink which is strong in colour may stain your braces so it is best to avoid them whenever possible. Dark green or black are shades that people also avoid because they look unattractive.
